I also read that since fiber needs only power from the central office location (apparantly this is different for coax, but I have no clue) so a redditor said if you have a ups for your equipment, and local power goes out, you could still be up online. Looks like you're getting new service regardless if you use it or not. I'd guess most servers will cap their download (their upload) speed to something less than 1gb/s and having symetrical upload is only beneficial if you are going to actually use it.
